Key Differences Between Developing iOS and Andriod apps

Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android mobile operating systems are two major technologies raiding the Smartphone market today and giving Blackberry a tough competition. Both these operating systems have features that bring out cut-throat competition between the two giants in the mobile apps industry. Although many apps and games have similar functionalities on both iOS and Android platforms, there is a marked difference between how to develop iPhone apps and to develop Android apps. Right from the language used for writing the app code to the way these apps reach the stores, iOS and Android have different ways to get tasks done.
Listed below are some of the key differences between iOS and Android. These explain why the developers are taking up separate computer classes to get mastery in both these operating systems.
1.There is a wider range of devices working on Android than on iOS
As the number of devices that work on iOS (including the iPhone, iPad and the iPod) are few, developing for iOS is relatively easier. But since Android caters to a much wider range of mobiles and tablet PCs. It is more of a task for the developers to be able to design workable apps for different versions and sizes of Android devices.
2.Development languages used for app development are different – While Android uses Java, iOS makes use of Objective C
If you consider this parameter, Android apps are easier to design, as Android makes use of Java for making application. Java is an easier and more widely used language in the current scenario than the Objective C used for developing on iOS. Although Objective C is quite similar to C and C++, it is still a new language for most people.
3.Mechanism for putting your app on the app store is different
If you are developing for Apple, you need to get each and every new app approved by Apple. Only then you get the permission to put up your app on the store. While in the case of Android, no such permission mechanism is required. You are free to add your app on the store as soon as you finish developing it.
4.Market statistics on number of apps people buy
Market statistics show that Apple users are far more likely than Android users to purchase an app. Only 19 per cent of Android users have been reported to be buying an app every month. This is certainly much less than the 50 per cent of Apple users who are known to buy apps every month. So if you are trying to develop Android apps, it is a fair idea to keep the app free and earn your buck out of the advertisements.
It is note worthy that there are differences in procedure for developing apps for Android and doing the same for iOS. But the basic requirement remains the same – an innovative idea! If you are truly interested in making an app and work strategically towards it, nothing can be too hard to achieved, be it for iOS or Android.
